hey two heads are better than one, I just made yet another antiflaming black metal community (unaware of the other ones in existence) and if any of you would like to come over there, it would help get this cause going, since more people equals more posts.

well hello, kids. i joined yesterday, having come to the realization that there are other metal fans in the world... at about 2 o'clock in the morning. caffeine does wonders. i'm not a strictly black metal fan, but any sort of (decent) metal fan is news to me. i go to an all girls catholic high school in the bay area, where i wear a uniform every day, and generally associate with people who can't complete a phrase without using the word "like" 17 times. now, don't get me wrong... you wouldn't be able to tell i was any more of a metal fan unless you saw me getting into my car. my car's plastered with bumper stickers that have earned me the respect of many truck drivers. very pleased to find some people with decent music tastes, though. oh so very pleased.

Has anyone heard Hecate Enthroned's "Miasma"?

Here is what Blackend has to say about it:

"5th release from the masters of the UK black/death metal scene! This new 7 track MCD sees the band return to their black metal roots in fine style. Whilst their previous album “Kings Of Chaos” had a death metal edge this release takes us back their earlier style of epic power black metal with huge riffs behind an epic orchestral backdrop, which makes this one of the most modern and original black metal records for years!"

I think it is safe to say that Kings of Chaos was a huge disappointment for most Hecate Enthroned fans. They really aren't good as a death metal band. So, I was quite pleased to read this blurb. I had seen Miasma in a record store but decided not to buy it, because I assumed that they were continuing down the death metal path. Is there original vocalist back with them? That would be quite nice, although I don't think that has happened. Assuming it is someone different, it really would be hard to imagine it being anything like the old Hecate Enthroned.

So... has anyone heard this release?

I want It stories.... That's right, It of Abruptum and Ophthalamia -- the dwarf "too evil to have a human name". ;) When I first heard about him, I was kinda amazed at the thought of having a little black metal dwarf running around and such, but when I saw pics of him (with Ophthalamia),... he didn't look that small. He was clearly shorter than the rest of the band members, but... well... I was disappointed. I also thought the photos might have been taken so as to make him look not-so-short. *shrug* Anyhow, what do any of you folks know about him?

psst - Ophthalamia's "Via Dolorosa" album is quite nice.

What CD ripping program do you use? I am in the process of ripping all of my cd's and encoding them into 256k-MP3's. I have been using a nifty little program called CDex. If you are unhappy with your current ripper, I would encourage you to check this one out. By the way, it is completely free (not shareware), which is a big bonus.

i'm the second member of the community. sweeeeet.

anyhow ... the new Satyricon, Volcano, sounds like it's shaping up to be a decent release. the two songs i have are good ... but there's no comparison to be made to their older material. it's a completely different style, practically a new band. but, obviously these guys still have their keen musicianship (some of Frost's drumming in the two songs i have makes my wrists swell at the mere thought of trying) ... they're just choosing to use it in a more accessible, easy-to-swallow pill form.

there's my two cents about that ... but, it may change if i decide to actually buy the album and listen to the entire thing. we'll see.
